The fundamental scope of this project was to increase the seating area of this popular, nautically themed tavern by designing an addition which would double the existing capacity. The addition provided the irresistible opportunity to reimagine the aesthetic and to improve its function and appearance as a sidewalk café. Our concept was to create sidewalk seating and interior spaces that communicate with the urban setting through large operable doors and windows. In good weather the façade could be opened to the street and allow views from within the elevated tavern to the streetscape below without compromising the flow of traffic or control points into and out of the tavern.
